Bridging Borders: The Power of Subnational Diplomacy in North America

Affiliate: Meridian International Center

The U.S.-Mexico-Canada partnership extends far beyond respective capitals, as deep economic, cultural, and intergovernmental connections thrive at the subnational level. Every day, officials at the state, provincial, and local level, as well as private sector partners, collaborate on trade, security, and innovation along our borders and across the continent. This session will explore case studies of successful subnational collaboration while exploring how subnational partnerships can best serve as force multipliers for national collaboration, and whether subnational leaders can continue to effectively drive change on the ground in their communities.
