Under One Sky: Diasporas in North America
Roundtable
Over the course of a 2000-year diaspora, the Jewish people have demonstrated remarkable adaptability in integrating into host societies while maintaining connections not only with Israel but also with subsequent homelands, with Israel becoming a key focus in the 19th century. Using the Jewish diaspora as a conceptual framework, the roundtable discussion will center around a comparative analysis of diverse diasporas within the North American context, encompassing Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The focus will be on examining the actual and potential political and societal impact of these diasporas, as well as exploring opportunities to harness their demographic and influential power to shape bilateral relationships between their native or ancestral homelands and their current countries of residence. Participants will engage in discussions regarding successful strategies to leverage the political and economic influence of these diasporas, considering their significant impact on domestic and foreign policies. By exploring these roles, we can gain deeper insights into the complex dynamics that shape the relationships between these nations and the influential impact of their diasporas on critical issues.
