Social Media has acquired a central role in the processes of citizen participation and integration of communities. With the use of platforms and applications, citizens have found an essential mechanism to express their opinions and to strengthen their influence in decision-making processes. These solutions make it possible to monitor and evaluate the performance of institutions and interact more actively with authorities, representatives and decision makers. In addition, social media allows interaction and coordination between citizens to promote activities, support different causes, projects and solutions. 

The panel “The role of digital platforms to strengthen communities and civic engagement”  addressed how diverse digital tools and platforms have made it easy to raise awareness and inspire change.
